Neon Revolution: Friend or Faux?

Traditional glass neon or modern LED, it's a proper debate in the sign-making world. The classic craft of glass neon may dent your wallet, but LED neon, affordable and versatile, is taking the limelight.

With LED neon takin' off like a rocket in recent years, loads of companies, ours included, are jumping on the wagon. Now, it's a real chinwag, figuring out the ins and outs between the old-school glass neon and its modern LED mate.

For those not clued up on the history of traditional glass neon, it hit its stride back in the 1920s. Lit up streets in places like Las Vegas and businesses worldwide. This brought a fresh vibe to signage, appealing to many.

This classic craft involves heating up glass tubes, slappin' a metal electrode at each end, and then pumping in noble gases at low pressure. Throw in a bit of electric charge, and there you have it – that signature neon glow.

But let's be honest, as much as we love the traditional glass neon, it's a bit of a wallet-squeezer. Craftsmanship comes at a cost, no denying. But lo and behold, along comes LED neon, versatile and reliable, making waves in the neon scene.

Built with LED strips in silicone or plastic tubing, this cheeky LED fella mimics the look of the old-school neon. The once annoying little brother is now stealing the show, causing a right ruckus in the sign makers' world. Its diversity and undeniable charm have turned it into a must-have for many whose pockets couldn't stretch to the traditional one.

Putting heritage, opinions, and all that fanciness aside, both these versions have got that certain 'je ne sais quoi' pulling us in. But when it comes down to brass tacks, what are the pros and cons, eh?
